Date/time period of project: 2002-2004
SAGE developed and produced the AgriCultural Roots Fair to celebrate and strengthen connections of cultures to the land. Held for three consecutive years in downtown Oakland, the public AgRoots Fair brought together California farmers producing ethnic specialty crops, ethnic restaurants, performing arts groups and visual artists representing traditional cultures and myriad urban community groups. The AgRoots Fair included a special youth fair focused on connecting healthy food, families and farms. Over 1,500 students from 19 public schools were introduced to the bounty and beauty of Bay Area Agriculture, with farmland stations and hands-on activities that brought to life connections between Bay Area geography, agriculture, healthy eating and physical activity.
